Finding the right location is one of the most important parts of planning your maternity photos. From sweeping mountain views and alpine lakes to open fields and golden sunsets, the setting shapes the entire feel of your images.
Denver and the surrounding areas offer an incredible variety of landscapes, making it easy to create maternity photos that feel timeless, personal, and uniquely your own.
Below are some of my favorite maternity photo locations in and around the Denver area, each offering a different look depending on the season, light, and scenery you’re drawn to.
Some locations offer sweeping mountain views and dramatic light, while others feel quieter and more intimate. The best setting for your maternity photos depends on the atmosphere you’re drawn to and how you want your images to feel.

Golden is one of my favorite areas for maternity photos because it offers several very different Colorado landscapes within an easy drive from Denver. Red Rocks Park brings dramatic rock formations and warm tones, while nearby open spaces offer foothill views, grasses, and softer mountain scenery.
These locations are especially beautiful near sunset, when the warm Colorado light brings out the color and texture of the landscape.

The Flatirons in Boulder offer classic Colorado mountain views while remaining close to Denver. Wide grassy fields and sweeping rock formations create maternity photos that feel expansive yet grounded.
This location is especially stunning in late summer and fall, when the grasses turn golden and the mountains frame the horizon.
If you’re wanting maternity photos that feel distinctly Colorado without driving deep into the mountains, the Flatirons are a beautiful balance of accessibility and scenery.

Broomfield Open Space and Standley Lake offer some of the most peaceful maternity photo settings near Denver. Both locations feature open fields, tall grasses, and expansive sky views that glow beautifully at sunset.
Standley Lake adds water reflections and distant mountain views, while Broomfield open space provides rolling terrain and quiet trails. These settings are ideal for families wanting maternity photos that feel relaxed and organic without dramatic rock formations.
Because they’re easily accessible from Denver, Erie, and Westminster, they’re perfect for clients looking for convenience while still capturing Colorado’s natural beauty.

For couples dreaming of true alpine scenery, Rocky Mountain National Park offers some of the most breathtaking maternity photos in Colorado.
From reflective lakes like Sprague Lake to wide open meadows at Moraine Park, the variety within the park allows for both intimate and expansive imagery. The mountain peaks create a powerful backdrop without overwhelming the moment.
While no photography permit is currently required, certain areas may close seasonally, so planning ahead is important.
If you love national parks or want maternity photos that feel adventurous yet refined, RMNP is worth the drive from Denver. You can learn more about planning a session in the park in my Rocky Mountain National Park maternity session guide.
Whether you’re drawn to the dramatic red rocks near Denver, the iconic mountain views in Boulder, or the expansive scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park, the right location ultimately comes down to how you want your photos to feel.
Some families love bold, architectural backdrops, while others prefer open fields and soft natural light. Each setting creates a different mood, but all of these locations offer beautiful Colorado scenery that keeps the focus on connection and this season of life.
